to the 30th year of the Broadway Ultra Society. I can remember that fateful date when it all
started three decades ago. I was thin
and had dark hair. Now I am just
delusional. But one thing that has not
left has been all the great memories. It
has been a hell of a ride..or a run depending how you want to look at
it. We hope to celebrate our 30th
year in a grand style.
But first some trivial business, alias money. We are broke.
On October 31, our bank balance was $106. I guess that means we are in the black, but
not quite. We owe certain vendors in the
neighborhood of $500-600. I realize a
deficit is quite fashionable these days, but not for a non-sponsored
organization. We have had similar
discussions about this topic before; as recent as March 22. Its the same old song but without the sugar
pie and honey bunch. Our revenue is down
and our expenses such as awards, printing, shirts, my 900 accounts, etc. are
up. I plan to evaluate and review the
matter to see what changes may be needed to resolve our fiduciary problems.
Meanwhile,
we can use some operating capital. Below
is the 2007 BUS Membership Application coupon.
This is the earliest it has been distributed. You will note that the membership dues have
increased to $15 for an individual and $20 for a couple or a reincarnated
member. Larger contributions will be
greatly appreciated.
A
completed membership coupon must be included with your dues. Please dont just send a check or write on
the coupon same as before. We need to
update our files with current and correct information. Sometimes, I would have encounters with
members on the street and they would give me money to pay for their dues. I would then put the money in my back
pocket. Later, I would find a ten-dollar
bill in my pants and didnt know where it came from. My first inclination would be did I recently
lose a tooth? Please try to use the
coupon.
One
fiscal change we will be making this year will be regarding dues
collection. During the past two years,
many members did not pay their dues or contributions, but still were receiving
their BUS mailings. No more, says the ultra
raven. You will have until January 31
(Ted Corbitts birthday) to renew your 2007 membership. If not paid by that date, all membership
benefits would have to cease. PLEASE
comply and thank you very much.
I
have been informed that the Knickerbocker 60 Kilo WILL BE HELD. The scheduled date, time and location are
Saturday, November 25 at 8:30 AM at East 90th Street and 5th
Avenue in Central Park. Unfortunately, I
do not have a copy of the entry application to distribute to you. The Knick is still a New York Road Runners
(NYRR) event hosted by the Millrose AA.
I also heard that will be aid at the race and your laps will be counted
and recorded. But the event may be
conducted in a somewhat low-key and no frill fashion. Please contact Allison Meyer from the NYRR at
212-423-2274 for more information. She
may be able to guide you how to access an application and provide additional
details.
