ULTRARUNNING GRAND PRIX 2003 RULES

 

1.     Any entrant into a Grand Prix event is automatically entered into the Grand Prix Championship series. There is no additional fee.

2.     The following awards will be presented:

a.      Grand Prix Champion, Second Place Overall, and Third Place Overall (Male and Female)

b.     Age Groups-First Place (Second Place, etc. will be awarded if there are sufficient participants in an age group)

1.     39 and below (Male and Female)

2.     40-44 (Male and Female)

3.     45-49 (Male and Female)

4.     50-54 (Male and Female)

5.     55-59(Male and Female)

6.     60-64 (Male only)

7.     60 and over (Female only)

8.     65-69 (Male only)

9.     70 and over (Male only)

c.      Special Award for anyone completing eight races!!!!

  1. Winners of the Overall Grand Prix Championship awards do not qualify for Age Group awards.
  2. There will be nine races in the series. Since two races are on the same day eight races is the maximum number of races in which an individual can compete.

a.      Caumsett 50K (3/2/03)

b.     Sybil Ludington 50K (4/26/03)

c.      Long Island Greenbelt Trail 50K (5/17/03)

d.     Joe Kleinerman 12 hour (TBD-June)

e.      Maria/Bruno Memorial Run 36 Mile (TBD-July)

f.       New York Pioneer 100 Mile/3Day (8/30-9/1/03)

g.      Cirunick-Innamorato Distance Run 50K (8/31/03)

h.      Staten Island 6 Hour (9/20/03)

i.       6 Hour-60th Birthday Run (10/19/03)

5.     Award winners must meet the following minimum requirements:

a.      Participate in a minimum of 4 races

b.     Participate in a minimum of 2 races of the following:

                                                    i.     Caumsett 50K located in Lloyd Neck, Long Island on 3/2/03

                                                  ii.     Sybil Ludington 50K located in Putnam County NY on 4/26/03

                                                iii.     Greenbelt Trail 50K located in Plainview, Long Island on 5/17/03

                                                iv.     60th Birthday 6 Hour located in Sunken Meadow Park on 10/19/03

c.      Participate in a minimum of 2 races of the following:

                                                    i.     Joe Kleinerman 12 hour located in NYC (exact date and location TBD)

                                                  ii.     Maria/Bruno Memorial 36 Mile located in NYC (exact date and location TBD)

                                                iii.     New York Pioneer 100 Mile/3 Day or Cirunick-Innamorato 50K located in Prospect Park, Brooklyn on 8/30/03-9/1/03 (100 mile) or 8/31/03 (50K)

                                                iv.     Staten Island 6 Hour located in Staten Island NY on 9/20/03

For purposes of these minimums participate means to enter and to start in an race. The participant does not have to complete the race not earn points in the race.

6.     Although individuals may compete in up to eight races, only the five races in which the participant earns the most number of points will count in the total to determine the awards. It may be that different races will count in the separate calculations of the Grand Prix Overall Championship and Age Group Awards.

  1. For each race the order of finish of all participants will be determined (separate for men and women) and each participant will be awarded points based on the order of finish.

a.      First Place-1000 points k. Eleventh Place-425 points

b.     Second Place-800 points l. Twelfth Place-400 points

c.      Third Place-700 points m. Thirteenth Place-375 points

d.     Fourth Place-650 points n. Fourteenth Place-350 points

e.      Fifth Place-605 points o. Fifteenth Place-325 points

f.       Sixth Place-565 points p. Sixteenth Place-300 points

g.      Seventh Place-530 points q. Seventeenth Place-275 points

h.      Eighth Place-500 points r. Eighteenth Place-250 points

i.       Ninth Place-475 points s. Nineteenth Place-225 points

j.       Tenth Place-450 points t. Twentieth Place and Below-200 points

  1. Participants must finish the distance races or complete 26.2 miles in the 6-hour race or complete 45 miles in the 12 hour race to earn any points.
  2. The participant with the highest total will be the Grand Prix Champion, the participant with the second highest total the Second Place Overall award, etc.
  3. For each race the order of finish of all participants in each age category will be determined (separate for men and women) and each participant will be awarded points based on the order of finish.

a. First Place-100 points f. Sixth Place-45 points

b. Second Place-80 points g. Seventh Place-40 points

c. Third Place-65 points h. Eighth Place-35 points

d. Fourth Place-55 points i. Ninth Place-30 points

e. Fifth Place-50 points j. Tenth Place and Below-25 points

  1. The participant with the highest total in each age category who has not been awarded a Grand Prix Overall award will be the Age Group Champion.
  2. For purposes of the Age Group award, the age of the individual on the date of the first race in the series that the individual participates will determine the age group award that the participant is eligible to win. Whether or not the participant earns points in the race will have no effect on this determination. Further, the participant may be competing in a different age group at any subsequent race but will be scored as if in the age category determined in this paragraph for purposes of the Age award.
  3. In the event of ties, head-to-head results between the tying individuals will be used. If this fails to determine a winner, best finish in all races will be used.
