WELCOME to the 39^th year of the Broadway Ultra Society. We couldnt have done it without you. I thank you for all your support. Cant believe it has been 39 years. I may have to start holding my elbow and the side of my face with one motion. Also that may help at the end of the upcoming Super Bowl party.

Our previous event was the Fat Ass Trail Mix-up on December 13 at Alley Pond Park. Last year, I referred it as a heck of an event. The same was true this year and also great weather. We had 101 finishers in the 30K and 58 in the 50K. Michael Daigeaun won the 30K segment with a time of 2:03:39, while the 50K winner was Aaron Heath clocked in a blazing 3:36:09. It was Aarons 4^th New York Ultra Running (NYUR) Grand Prix victory of the year. Benedicte Uguen, recruited by Eliot Lee, shined in the womens division winning both the 30K & 50 with times of 2:36:50 and 4:35:54 respectively.

We also greatly thank all the event volunteers and the Northeast District of the Parks Department for all their assistance. I also want to greatly thank the Greater Long Island Running Club under the auspices of (GLIRC) president Mike Polansky and their role with BUS events. They provide so much to our ultra scene with equipment, supplies, staffing and also their committed interest in ultra running in general. Please note that the first area ultra of the season will be the Caumsett State Park 50K Championship & the corresponding GLIRC 25K on Sunday, March 6. The 50K (also the inaugural event of the NYUR Grand Prix) will start at 8:30 AM with the 25K starting 5 minutes later at 8:35 AM. Below please find the 2016 BUS Membership Application coupon. Please complete and remit as soon as possible. The membership dues are (same as last year) $20 for an individual and $25 for a couple. The latter is for those residing at the same address or in counseling. As I mentioned in my opening sentence, BUS never could have existed without your support. And especially your financial support since BUS has not been sponsored. Hence, every one of you had been our sponsors. So, I would like to impose on your generosity (again) if you could make a donation along with your membership dues. Whatever you send will be greatly appreciated and will be put to the ultra good.

This upcoming weekend will be one of remembrance for me. Tomorrow will be the 10^th anniversary of the passing of Ralph Balsamo. Ralph was a great friend and a true ultra spirit. And Sunday will be the 97^th birthday of Ted Corbitt. Dave Obelkevich and friends are celebrating the day with a 50K run around Manhattan Island, following one of Teds infamous training routes.

The first event of the year will be the New York Ultra Running (NYUR) 3-Hour Award Run and coinciding 14^th Annual NYUR Grand Prix Awards Brunch to be held on Sunday, March 20 at Hendrickson Park in Valley Stream. Enclosed please find the event flyer. The run will start at 9:00 AM and be held on a flat 1.45-mile loop. Following the event will be a brunch and Grand Prix Award presentations. Please note that all indoor activities this year will be held at the Pool Building instead of the Community Center. And as special perk, NYUR will be giving out long sleeve tee shirts to the first 60 pre-entrants of the race.
