Participants in the Long Island Endurance Run can truly say the event was TREEmendous this year!
As a result of the downed power lines blocking the last stretch of Lyold Harbor Road,
it was necessary to turn the 50 Mile runners early, making this year's actual distance
approximately 48 miles rather than the full 50 miles.
Tracy Visconti, who placed 2nd last year, returned to capture first place in this years
50 miler. This is on top of his 7th place finish in the Sybil Ludington 50k.
The womens 50 mile winner was 27 year old Elizabeth Watson, a lawyer from Brooklyn,NY
who was attempting her first 50 miler-What an amazing performance!
Congratulations to Jodi Kartes Heino as the first GLIRC women finisher in the 50 mile run and
to Helma Clavin as the first GLIRC finisher in the masters division!
The weather conditions certainly tested the fortitude of the runners-cold, blustery and
wet wether conditions prevailed most of the day. There was a break in the weather
allowing runners to gather at Firemens field after the race and enjoy sandwiches and
swap war stories. Thanks to all the volunteers who also endured the weather and
stayed on the course!
